At the height of summer, when the thermometer is pushing triple digits and you can cut the South Carolina humidity with a butter knife, I know it’s time to head to Goodwill and do some flannel shirt shopping. I know, I know- it sounds CRAZY! But that’s when the selection of fuzzy plaids is the best, and a lot of them end up on the clearance racks.
But, why would I do this (you might be asking)? Well…because I absolutely LOVE to repurpose old flannel shirts into all kinds of projects. And now that it’s finally feeling more like autumn around here, I wanted to gather some of my favorite ideas to share with you!

Hand Warmers – These reusable hand warmers are perfect for autumn bonfires and tailgating parties…tuck them in your pockets and you’re good to go!
Fabric Pumpkins – These easy-to-make fabric pumpkins are all the rage…but made even better with flannel.
Patchwork Scarf – Personally, I am a HUGE fan of wearing scarves as fall and winter accessories, so this project is definitely on my to-do list now.
Bird Ornaments – How cute would these be on a Christmas tree? Blue jays, cardinals…I just love this idea!
Table Runner – Who knew flannel and lace would pair so wonderfully together? You could customize this flannel table runner to your décor in any number of ways.
Bottle Cozy – When your beer or hard cider needs a fall accessory, flannel is the way to go! (It’ll also keep your hands from getting icy cold at the same time!)
Flannel Quilt – There is just something so wonderful about snuggling under a blanket when the air gets cooler, especially around an autumn bonfire. And this quilt idea is just plain gorgeous.
Chair Cover – What a great idea…to upcycle an old flannel shirt into a chair cushion cover!
Holiday Wreath – Cozy, festive, and easy to make- this flannel shirt Christmas wreath is a fun way to add unique décor to your door this holiday season.
Flannel Pillow – These flannel pillows would be a great way to add some ‘cabin’ décor to your home during the fall and winter holidays- love, love, love!

So many fun DIY ideas, I’m not sure which one is my favorite. I’m actually working on a NEW flannel project for my blog because I simply can’t get enough… anyone else heading to the men’s section in Goodwill this weekend??
Craft on!
