New Store & New Beginnings!

Out with the old and in with the new… That’s usually the case for the average Goodwill donor; however, Goodwill Industries saw how the citizens of Lexington County consistently donate quality merchandise and how the thrifting cycle is evolving and decided to invest in a beautiful, new store located on Highway 378 in Lexington.  The new store is located less than a mile from the previous store, but the “old store” will now be utilized as specialty store to sell merchandise that is brand new or large overstock like furniture.

To celebrate the new location’s grand opening, Goodwill Industries and I hosted a contest for one lucky winner and one of her friends to shop with me for two hours in the new store prior to it opening to the public.  The lucky winner that was selected was Jamie Page.  Jamie brought along her close friend Leanne Winn to join in the fun with her.

We started our thrifting adventure two hours before the much-anticipated ribbon cutting.  I met with the two winners at the front door, and we discussed their personal styles and what they hoped to achieve during their shopping adventure. I then guided them through the new layout of the store and quickly started sharing my tips for thrifting.  The store was absolutely amazing! Everything was clean, organized, and perfectly merchandised by category. It was bursting at the seams with fabulous items!  We all agreed that the new store resembles a boutique retail store! Shopping with them was so much fun – it was like shopping with my gal pals!

Shopping for Jamie and Leanne felt very familiar to me.  Their personal styles mimicked mine: eclectic and spontaneous.  They were open to pairing new things for the upcoming transition into fall.   I believe when you thrift that’s exactly how you should embrace shopping.   You can’t enter a Goodwill with singular vision trying to locate a particular outfit or item.   You must shop with the mindset focused on the item having an opportunity within your wardrobe.  Trust me, if you find an item that you love, you will find something to wear it with and a reason to wear to it!

A little about the winners…

Jamie is a mom of two and a full-time model.  She is always on the go and wanted to try to gain some pieces that would pair nicely with different accessories to pull off different looks for some upcoming photoshoots she has scheduled along with her birthday party that weekend.

Leanne is a full-time hairdresser and was in hopes of finding items that were trendy and showed off her fun personality without sacrificing comfort.  She wanted to learn more about pairing bolder color combinations with patterns to branch out of her comfort zone.

I shopped with both of the ladies one-on-one and helped them select items that were versatile and comfortable.  Jamie said, “My Favorite outfit I selected that day was a red pencil skirt and a black crop blouse.  I felt it made the perfect birthday gift for myself, and I enjoyed wearing it to dinner that weekend to celebrate my 31st birthday with my husband and friends!”

Leanne said, “My favorite piece I found that day was a herringbone utility vest that I had seen in multiple Pinterest outfits.  It is perfect for fall and allows me to layer new colors and patterns to experiment with new accessories while remaining comfortable – It is perfect and was only $4.75 – I couldn’t believe it!”

All three of us really enjoyed shopping in the new location and have been back shopping together several times since its grand opening.

It couldn’t be more true… Out with the old and in the with new takes on a whole new meaning when thrifting.  If you would like to see the new ensembles they purchased during their shopping trip please visit me at @TheThriftySouthernBelles on Instagram.

I hope to see you all in the stores and do not for to donate some of your “old” items and replace them with some “new” ones!

As always – happy thrifting,

Lindsay, The Thrify Southern Belle
