If you ask me, no kitchen has enough storage! Ok, maybe the sprawling versions you see in glossy magazines…but those aren’t very realistic for most of us, right? So, when I spotted this large, clunky magazine rack in Goodwill, I immediately envisioned a way to upcycle it into a kitchen organizer of sorts.
It was really beat up and tragically dusty…so it took some work to get it all cleaned up and ready for a makeover. Since painting my thrift store treasures feels like I’m sealing out the previous life, I decided to spray paint the entire magazine rack in a soft, pale gray.
See? So much cleaner and sleeker looking now! (And yes, I lightly sanded the entire thing to give it a satiny finish.)
Now, since the magazine rack is heavy on its own AND I plan on filling it with kitchen goodies, I decided to add four casters/wheels to make it easy to move around. I bought them from a hardware store and simply attached them to the bottom of the magazine rack using my drill.
Last but not least, I added a couple of hooks (one on each side) for even more storage options!
Ta-da! Now it holds all sorts of kitchen goodies- baking sheets, foil & other food prep/storage items, and the hooks hold my oven mitts.
Think you’ll be looking for an old magazine rack next time you’re at Goodwill? You better grab it before I see it, because you can never have too much storage at home!
