Supermodels across the world have been household names throughout the decades, from Cindy Crawford to Kate Moss to Naomi Campbell. This was most recently exemplified when Gisele Bündchen pridefully and gracefully walked for her home country of Brazil in the opening ceremony of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Names like Karlie Kloss, Kendall Jenner, and Gigi Hadid are on the rise as they’ve skillfully traversed from the world of Victoria’s Secret Angels to become high-fashion supermodels, donning Versace, Balmain and Marc Jacobs on the runways and in Vogue.
While high fashion and couture are entrancing to the eye in ad campaigns and during international fashion weeks, these models have taken their own personal off-duty style and made it both iconic and adaptable.
So how can you adopt the look of models who have access to high-end brands without breaking the bank?
Today we’ll take a look at how to recreate the rocker chic look of Gigi Hadid.
First, head to the jeans section of Goodwill and find some distressed grey or black skinny jeans that look like they have a bit of an edge to them. I found a pair of Forever 21 pants that miraculously fit perfectly (everyone knows how tough it is to find jeans to fit your exact body type, am I right?), threw them in the washer, and rolled them up with a thin cuff about three times to let my ankle peek out.
Step 2: Tie the Tee
Next, make your way over to the blouse section and search for a black tank or tee that has a little extra room toward the bottom. This excess fabric allows you to knot the bottom of the shirt (on your preferred side), creating a cute crop top without having to risk cutting an even line across the bottom. I found an Old Navy tee, washed it, and knotted it on the left.
Step 3: Return of the Choker
Remember the choker from the Kylie Jenner 90’s look? Well, it’s making quite the comeback. Take a trip over to the belt section, and find a thin belt of your choice. I found a skinny, white belt with a white and gold bow on the front to contrast the darker elements of the outfit and add a little feminine flare. As before, I cleaned it, measured it to fit my neck and cut off the excess leather.
Step 4: Cute to Boot
Finally, make your way over to the shoe section to look for some black boots to complete your ensemble. I found a pair of black ankle booties with a small heel and gold buckles to compliment the gold on the choker. Once cleaned, they paired well with the rolled-up skinny jeans.
As usual, I finished off my look with my signature accessories of borrowed aviators (thanks Jess!) and my Kate Spade Pine Street Small Kori. For my eyes, I continued to use the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette, Almay black liquid eyeliner, and Benefit Roller Lash mascara. For my lips, I tried a new product, Tarte’s Tartiest Creamy Matte Lip Paint in the color Crop Top.
