I always pick up vintage brass candlesticks when I am in Goodwill or any other thrift store. If nothing else, they are excellent for their intended purpose, which is holding candles.
Over the last year or so I have collected around 50 candlesticks. It’s not a lot as the stash has been divided up for various projects. Remember my last post? Yes, these are the same brass candlesticks, only painted black to fit the décor of the table. Spray paint can work miracles!
There are so many great ideas for repurposing candlesticks. One of the popular trends right now is to use candlesticks with plates attached to make a thrifty version of a cake stand. While the idea is ingenious, it didn’t quite fit the overall aesthetics of my apartment so I passed on the idea.
About a month ago, I was in Goodwill and I spotted white CB2 (Crate and Barrel modern line) plates. With plates being on 49 cents, I just couldn’t pass them up. Even though I have a ton of plates (most of which I use for my intimate dinner party service), I still bought them. I didn’t have a need for them, but I knew the price was excellent for something that really fit my style.
A few days ago I was in a creative mood and it hit me!
I could use the same idea of plates on a candlestick, but modernize with different materials, which I just so happened to have, thanks to Goodwill.
At first, I didn’t care for this project, so I kept it tucked away. I am so glad I did, because these modern display cake stands are perfect for me and they were less than $1 each!
There is an upcoming event I am attending where I am going to be a vendor, so these are going to come in handy displaying a few of my products.
My design tip for you is to buy what interests you and you will surely find a use for it!
