DIY Embellished Sweatshirt

One day I was doing my regular browsing of fashion blogs looking for inspiration when I came across an embellished sweatshirt. I absolutely loved the look but I wasn’t a fan of the $70 price tag. Now, I am not opposed to paying that price for an article of clothing but to me, this piece is a bit too trendy and the cost per wear wouldn’t be worth it.

What’s the next step? DIY of course!

I found a teal Hanes Sweatshirt (for $1!) The was perfect for the project.

Next, I headed to the craft store and bought black glass beads.

I decided to use embroidery thread to apply the beads since they had more weight to them than beads typically do.

If you want, you can create a pattern with the embellishment but I wanted them to have a “scattered” look so before applying the beads I put on the top, got a pen and poked tiny dots around the area of the sleeve where I wanted them.

The total cost of this project was less than $10.

What trendy item have you DIYed lately because you didn’t want to pay retail?
