November is here and Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Which means I want to spruce up the house here and there- family and friends will be coming over, after all. But I’m not too keen on spending a lot of money right before Christmas.
So, what’s a girl to do? Go to Goodwill of course! With home décor on my mind, I spied this beat up kitchen cutting board on the shelf during a recent trip to my local store.
I won’t lie to you- it didn’t look all that great in person. BUT…I knew it had potential. A little TLC could transform it into something to show off; I could just feel it in my DIY-loving heart.
The first thing I did was clean it and then I sanded down the top- just to remove the stains and the cut marks from all the chopping it had endured. And just like that, it already looked ten times better!
Now that the sanding was done, I gave it a few coats of wood stain to give it that rustic, farmhouse vintage look that I love.
Once the stain had dried, I gave the entire thing a coat of polyacrylic (any sealant would do) and gathered a couple of inexpensive door handles from my local hardware store.
Are you ready for the big reveal? The old cutting board has been repurposed into a trendy tray!
It’s perfect to set out on a coffee table for coasters, drinks, snack bowls, etc. And bonus points- it’ll keep your Thanksgiving guests from leaving cold drink glasses on your good furniture!
How’s that for a budget-friendly, on-trend project that anyone can do?? What a transformation! Craft on!
