Every couple of years, me and about twelve of my closest friends try to take a big trip together. While our lives have scattered us across the U.S., we always look forward to coming together when we can. In just a few weeks, I’m going to be here:
This year, we (obviously) chose a cruise! We went on one a couple of years ago, and had such a great time that we decided to do it again! I’ve been super-excited, but the other day one of my cruise mates dropped a fly in my frozen mojito.
“What are you going to wear for the cruise?” he asked.
“Probably a lot of the same stuff I wore for the last one.”
“No! We can’t do that! Think about it: We went on a cruise a couple of years ago. If we’re all wearing the same clothes from the last one, people will wonder why we’re all sharing two-year-old photos again!” *
*He’s a very fashionable man.
Ah. First world problems. Since I had already spent a sound chunk of change paying for my vacation, I certainly didn’t want to spend even more on a new wardrobe. I decided to give my nearest Goodwill a try. I was not disappointed! There were many options to choose from for my tropical adventure.
But wait…what is this?
You might be surprised to learn Goodwill has an amazing clearance section. Because they need to keep inventory moving in order to make sure the same stuff doesn’t stay in their store forever (thus boring their shoppers), they have regular markdowns throughout the week. My favorite day to shop at Goodwill is Sunday. Here’s why:
That’s right. On Sundays, the items in the clearance section are reduced to 50 cents. I don’t know about you, but I have NEVER found cheaper pricing at any other thrift store. Period. There were some really nice things to be found in this section as well.
I’m quite happy with everything I found in this trip. Let’s take a closer look at what came home with me!
I’m a sucker for teal, and I love how light & flowy this dress is. It can work as a dress or a swimsuit coverup, so while it’s the most expensive piece I chose, I think its versatility makes up for it.
You just can’t have enough maxi dresses when you’re on vacation, am I right? This one is super soft, and I’m digging the tie dye.
With the right shoes and accessories, this frock could go from poolside to the champagne bar without a costume change. I also like the dark navy hue and the tag inside that read, “Try me once. Love me forever.”
This T-shirt from J Crew is tissue-thin and an obvious match for my next piece.
This feathery mini is actually a good crossover piece for multiple seasons. I wore it the other day with a cozy twinset. Even if I only wear it these two times (Not gonna happen!), at 25 cents per wear, I think I’ve definitely found an amazing deal! Plus, it has pockets! Pockets!
A crisp white blouse is a staple for just about any wardrobe. This versatile piece is great for work or play. It’s timeless and sophisticated. But I got especially excited about this shirt when I took a closer look at those cuffs.
I have a special affinity for french cuffs. When my grandmother passed away, I inherited a few pairs of her gorgeous cufflinks. I cannot wait to wear them soon!
In one afternoon, I found just about everything I need to outfit myself during my trip.
And what did this haul cost me?
With all the money I saved, I can buy an extra daquiri…or three! 🙂
