Ruffled Dress from a Bed Sheet

So far, when I shop at Goodwill for fabric, I look through the clothes. Then, I thought, “What about bed sheets?”… And, welcome to my newest dress.

You may have an old sheet stuffed in your linen closet but, if not, they are very inexpensive at Goodwill. Much cheaper than fabric!

The size of the sheet is going to be dependent on the width/length of the dress. This one seems like a full.

I started by folding the sheet in half and cutting a strip from the top (to use, later, as a ruffle).

Then, I sewed down the side and hemmed the bottom.

I sewed a pocket in the top and ran a piece of elastic though it. This is, obviously, the top of your dress.

With the extra strip that I cut, I hemmed one side and made a long stitch in the other, pulled the strings, and made a ruffle. I attached the ruffle to the wrong side of the top of the dress, then flipped it over the front.

And, that’s how I made a dress with a bed sheet!

Have a great weekend!

Enjoying the Good Life,

Kendra
