The biggest statement piece In your home doesn’t have to be the most expensive. For instance, the wing back chairs I purchased almost 5 years ago are still in heavy rotation.
Speaking of my wingback chairs, Have I ever told you how to paint a fabric chair? There’s lots of advice to be found out there, but here’s how I do it:
Step 1: Find a suitable chair.
The proper chair or sofa is one that has smooth fabric (no velvet or textured fabric).
Step 2: Buy fabric medium.
Any craft store should have this. Buy a gallon.
Step 3: Mix 1 part fabric medium to 3 parts water.
You can also mix in a fabric scent like Febreeze.
Step 4: Spray your chair with your fabric medium and water.
Wetting your chair or sofa prior to painting it allows for a much even coat of paint and a more professional finish.Paint your sofa with your favorite latex paint. Let it completely dry before the next step.
Step 5: Paint your chair.
After the first coat, let it dry for about an hour and repeat the steps.
If you sand the fabric between coats, it’ll reduce the rough feel of the paint.
I know the typical questions everyone will have, so I’ll answer them now.
Will the paint come off on my clothes?
Is the chair rough-feeling?
Will the paint peel?
How long will it last?
I’m not quite sure, but yo can always keep the same paint on hand for touch ups.
Just remember, when you’re looking for a chair to paint, look for one with smooth fabric and leave the fancy textured ones in Goodwill for the next customer to enjoy!
