Handmade Holiday: Book Page Lamp Shades

Today begins a series that I’m calling “Handmade Holiday”, where I plan on sharing projects that you can make/give using items from Goodwill. Gifts from the heart. Christmas is not about running around spending lavish amounts of money. You can show someone you care with a thoughtful, handmade gift.

So, to begin, Book Page Lamp Shades…

Anthropologie inspired, for sure. They used to sell this lamp and I think it was close to $400.00. Insanity, people. If I was super rich, I still couldn’t imagine forking out that kind of money. Geeze.

My sister and I found these drum shades at Goodwill. Aren’t they cute? No, not so much.

Thankfully, the yarn came off very easily. And, once we had removed the purple fuzz, guess what we found? Spray painted poodles. Yes, that’s what I said. It looks like these were someone else’s diy project. What goes around…

My sister had the idea of covering them in pages from a hymnal. Love it. (Thank you, church I grew up in, for donating this hymnal to us!)

Once we cut the pages, we just started layering them on with Mod Podge. We painted a layer under and over the pages to make sure that it adhered well. This stuff is where it’s at.

They turned out even better than I imagined!

Like? Love? Of course you love them! How can you not? Not only do they have a great eclectic/vintage vibe, but you feel uplifted every time you glance over the words. Win, win.

Merry Christmas Season!

Enjoying the Good Life,

Kendra

Right? lol. I’m sure they were probably from a kid’s room, but it was a funny surprise when we took the yarn off!
