Welcome to our garden! This is our third, and definitely our favorite, yet. It’s our largest and we have it full of delicious (hopefully!) vegetation. We have: onions, lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, bell pepper, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, and corn. Whew. There is just something wonderful about eating something that you grew in your backyard. A tomato never tasted so good.

Giveaway: Furniture Makeovers

The lovely Barb Blair, from Knack, released her new book, Furniture Makeovers, and it. is. FABULOUS. You may remember Barb from her guest posts on The Fundamentals of Ornamentals (love!) and her Jewelry Stand. Barb is a big fan of Goodwill and she shares in her book that Goodwill is one of her “go to” places for furniture. She’s also incredibly sweet and has been such a supporter of The Good Life.

I’m so excited to offer you a chance to win a signed copy her new book!

DIY Geometric Art

IMG_7045

It’s Pinterest Challenge time and I’m linking up with Bower Power Blog and Young House Love. This isn’t the first time that I’ve painted a piece of art for the Pinterest Challenge. Do you remember my Ombre Art? I think I just really love slapping paint on a canvas.

I’ve had my inspiration (original source here) for this piece pinned for quite a while and I’m glad that I finally tried my hand at it. I guess that’s the point of the challenge, after all!

I started with a blank canvas (Although you could paint it a base color if you wanted to!) and used Frog Tape to section off my design.

Then, I just started filling it in with color. I think this is a bit like paint by numbers for grown ups.

A couple coats later and I was finished! It did bleed a bit and I’m not sure why. Sort of a bummer. But, overall, I am very happy with it! I love the color combinations and how abstract it is.

If you like it would you pin it? And, I’d love for you to follow me on Pinterest!

A DIY Celebration

This weekend, we hosted a baby shower for our good friends. (Yay for precious new babies!) As I was setting up, it dawned on me how DIY and Goodwill-friendly our decor was. I guess that’s what happens when you love DIY–it kind of effects everything!

I painted these mdf letters aqua…

and I  tried my hand at making tissue paper tassels. SO easy and inexpensive and it added so much to the decor.

I made the sign using the engineer print technique and do you remember this coffee filter wreath? Always a favorite.

A chalk “E” was a cute addition to this chalkboard jar

And, the chalkboard globe was a great place to write a sweet note to Ezra.

I like to get foodie ideas, so maybe this will give you some inspiration for your next shindig. The food was brunch-themed and the menu included:

Decaf coffee/orange juice
Blueberry muffins
Chocolate muffins
Cinnamon rolls
Fruit salad
Quiche

The whole event was relaxing and fun. Just a get together with friends to celebrate a baby on the way!

Going Bananas and a Fun Reader Find

I ran in the grocery store, yesterday, to pick up a few things and I only took my keys and my card in with me. As often happens, “a few things” turned into half a cart full and, sometime towards the end of my shopping trip, I suddenly realized that I wasn’t holding my card anymore. A credit card, people. Do you know how hard that could possibly be to find? I asked an employee, asked customer service, and started retracing my steps. Guys, I was almost crying trying to imagine all the places I could have set it down without thinking. It’s flat–it could have been on a shelf anywhere. Or in the freezer section? Oh my.

I found it in the bananas. For realz.

I must have set it down when I went to separate a bunch (Do you do that? I don’t need 7 bananas, just 3.). I’m so, so thankful I found it and found it quickly. But, y’all–that adds a whole new meaning to “going bananas”.

Moving on.

Alicia send me these pictures of her most recent amazing Goodwill purchase. As you may remember from her kitchen tour, Alicia is a serious Goodwill shopper, but this one takes the cake.
