Reader Redesign: The Easiest Pillow Cover

My friend, Ashley, is redecorating her bedroom and she wanted grey toss pillows for her bed. After shopping around in traditional retail stores, she decided to check Goodwill. She found pillows and grey sheets and decided to get creative!

Ashley said, “Redecorating our master bedroom and couldn’t find the right pillow. Enter Goodwill purchase and DIY pillow! Pillow and bed sheet $2.99 each from Goodwill. No sewing needed! Simple and I love it!”

DIY Geometric Art

IMG_7045

It’s Pinterest Challenge time and I’m linking up with Bower Power Blog and Young House Love. This isn’t the first time that I’ve painted a piece of art for the Pinterest Challenge. Do you remember my Ombre Art? I think I just really love slapping paint on a canvas.

I’ve had my inspiration (original source here) for this piece pinned for quite a while and I’m glad that I finally tried my hand at it. I guess that’s the point of the challenge, after all!

I started with a blank canvas (Although you could paint it a base color if you wanted to!) and used Frog Tape to section off my design.

Then, I just started filling it in with color. I think this is a bit like paint by numbers for grown ups.

A couple coats later and I was finished! It did bleed a bit and I’m not sure why. Sort of a bummer. But, overall, I am very happy with it! I love the color combinations and how abstract it is.

If you like it would you pin it? And, I’d love for you to follow me on Pinterest!

A DIY Celebration

This weekend, we hosted a baby shower for our good friends. (Yay for precious new babies!) As I was setting up, it dawned on me how DIY and Goodwill-friendly our decor was. I guess that’s what happens when you love DIY–it kind of effects everything!

I painted these mdf letters aqua…

and I  tried my hand at making tissue paper tassels. SO easy and inexpensive and it added so much to the decor.

I made the sign using the engineer print technique and do you remember this coffee filter wreath? Always a favorite.

A chalk “E” was a cute addition to this chalkboard jar

And, the chalkboard globe was a great place to write a sweet note to Ezra.

I like to get foodie ideas, so maybe this will give you some inspiration for your next shindig. The food was brunch-themed and the menu included:

Decaf coffee/orange juice
Blueberry muffins
Chocolate muffins
Cinnamon rolls
Fruit salad
Quiche

The whole event was relaxing and fun. Just a get together with friends to celebrate a baby on the way!

A Gold Mirror

When I found this little gold mirror at Goodwill, I thought that I would paint it to freshen it up. I can really see it rocking a bright, lime green–can’t you? But, the more I thought about it, I decided that I really like the gold. It just seems like it’s the right color for this style mirror.

Layering gold into your room can make a room feel rich and interesting. Even if it’s just a small piece here and there–a jewelry bowl, a mirror, a small figurine–it just works.

Thoughts? What is your opinion on leaving this mirror as is?

DIY Chalkboard Globe

I bought this globe at Goodwill almost two years ago and it’s been sitting in my garage, waiting to be used. I almost got rid of it and I’m so glad that I didn’t! When I saw Katie Bower’s chalkboard globe I was all–Globe? Check. Chalkboard paint? Check. Let’s do this thing.

I think it’s so fun and unique. Can’t you just imagine the different ways it can be used?

Hope you have a happy Monday!

Kendra
